Gmail tweaks galore

Check out the "Labs" tab under "Settings".

They just added Tasks and SMS/text messaging, and they've apparently had Superstars (analogous to "flags" in Outlook), Canned Responses, a Forgotten Attachment Detector, and a Vacation Time auto-responder for a while.

This is also where you can find the famous "Mail Goggles" gadget, which aims to prevent drunken emails by forcing the sender to solve a few simple math problems depending on the time of night.

I'd been wanting a Tasks gadget for a while, and my phone's per-message text fees are highway robbery, so I might test drive the SMS gadget too.

I really like their Tasks addition too. I still like having a "To Do" slot on my Google Calendar, but it's great for short-term goals.

I've been trying out the SMS/text messaging thing too. I like it.

Can't say I care much about their Superstars thing. I didn't enable it because it looks kind of stupid to me.

So how does this text messaging feature work? You can send someone a text message via Gmail and you won't get charged for sending it?

It works like GChat.

You don't get charged for sending it, but the receiver might get charge for getting your message...but that's the case with all text messaging.

I feel like the Mail Goggles might be a good idea for me... if only my phone had the same feature

I think it works a lot like Chase said. You don't get charged, but the person receiving it may be billed, depending on how the pricing of their cell phone plan. I used to do the same thing on AIM, I think.

Through labs I have:
- moved chat to right side (debatable)
- added calendar to gmail
- activated mouse gestures (only using it some)

I think video chat is great.

I also moved chat over to the right-hand side, but switched it back after a couple of days. The calendar function is definitely a plus, as is video.
